For those who indulged in the devious madness of Strange Angel last year, you’re in luck— if you hadn’t already heard this past fall, the show was renewed for Season 2, and we’ve been given a teaser to whet the whistle before June arrives with a new batch of insane episodes on which we’ll feast voraciously.
A refresher for anybody only now coming to this glorious slice of TV weirdness:
Strange Angel is based on the biography
Strange Angel: The Otherworldly Life
of
Rocket Scientist
John Whiteside Parsons
by George Pendle.
The series follow Jack Parsons (played by Jack Reynor)— a brilliant, ambitious blue-collar worker
in 1930s Los Angeles
who started as a janitor
at a chemical factory
but had fantastical dreams that led him
to birth the unknown discipline of American rocketry.
Along the way, he fell into a mysterious world that included sex magick rituals,
and became a disciple
of occultist Aleister Crowley.
Parsons used Crowley’s teachings of self-actualisation to support his unimaginable and unprecedented endeavour to the stars.
Before Season 2, catch up on the series with CBS All Access. After each episode, make sure to come check back in with Father Son Holy Gore to find in-depth recaps and reviews which include historical context + much more.
